Platinum Design Competition 2022

in 2022 i entered my first interior design competition with my partner Muhammad Yafie Jasmi Azis. We didn’t win but we got to be the “people’s favorite project” by vote. The brief was to design an apartment with a mezzanine level for a newly wed productive couple. The competition was held by Platinum Ceramic and titled PADC (Platinum Architectural Design Competition), this competition is held annually.

it is up to us to decide what’s the client is going to be like, and for us we choose to have a working salaryman husband with a fashion designer wife, and its implication is in the design elements that we used in the design. despite the main goal of the competition which is to use platinum’s product on the design. here is the entrance to the apartment, showcasing a foyer with a sitting area and a hidden door to laundry and bathroom below the mezzanine. This area has a lower “compress” sense of space, and then followed with a higher ceiling in the liming room which is double height.

we try to make use the double height in the design by creating a connection between the lower and upper space. A chandelier is used to make the area around the sofa more intimate, and show the grandness of the space.

The area below the stair is also utilized for storage. The wall on the right side of the image is the main highlight of the space. Kitchen with an island table that also function as dining table. Above is a row of shelves for display of books, materials, and designs.

The mezzanine level feature a display shelves and a material rack for the fashion designer wife. This shelves could also function as a small library and thus function as the main highlight of the living dining kitchen area seen from the first level. We tried to emphasize the verticality of the space by using vertical elements like the moru glass on the railing, and also vertical wood paneling on the shelves. A combination of black, wood, gold and green color give a sense of boldness and a touch of luxury.

In 2022, I collaborated with my partner Yaffie on our inaugural interior design competition, capturing the title of “people’s favorite project.” Designed for a creative couple, our apartment showcased innovative elements, emphasizing vertical spaces and luxury materials, despite not winning the main prize. This experience ignited our passion for design and creativity.Designed By:Farrel Adyuta Muhammad…
